Members of Blue Earth City Council will be getting a hefty pay raise beginning next year.
At their June 17 meeting, the seven-member council approved a resolution increasing their annual salary for the first time since 2015.
According to City Code on the city’s website, the mayor’s yearly compensation is $4,800 and each council member earns $3,000.
The mayor will now be paid $7,200 and a council member’s salary is doubled to $6,000.
Also changing is the penalty for not notifying City Hall in advance of a regular meeting that one will be unable to attend or be late .
A council member’s pay will reduced $250 per meeting for an unexcused absence, instead of the previous $48.
Four excused absences will be allowed each year and any more than that will be considered unexcused.
Council members’ pay is divided into 12 monthly payments and reimbursement of mileage and out-of-pocket expenses related to city business requires council approval.
