Winnebago residents will be paying more for their utility bill beginning in the first billing of January.
However, the slight increase will be less than $10 a month.
At the recommendation of the Utility Committee, City Council members unanimously approved a resolution to increase water, sewer and other usage fees.
“The City of Winnebago understands rate increases are necessary to maintain operations at its water system, sanitary sewer system and storm sewer system,” says the resolution.
Increases to the various user fees means a household using 4,000 gallons a month will be paying an additional $6.27 each month.
According to city officials, the current stormwater fee has been in place since 2019. While the water and wastewater user fees have been the same for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
At their meeting Tuesday night, council members also unanimously approved a new three-year contract with B&B Sanitation.
Chris Cyphers, owner of the residential trash and recycling company, says rate increases are needed due to the rising business costs.
Under a service proposal presented to the council, refuse rates would increase from $24 a month to $25.21. Recycling rates would go from $5.30 to $5.71.
