A man who fled a domestic shooting scene last week in Truman is now behind bars.
Kyle Jonathan Liford, 32, was taken into custody and transported to the Martin County Jail on Sunday.
County authorities say Liford was arrested without incident and did not release any other details or information.
According to the jail’s inmate roster, Liford was booked into the facility at 8:40 p.m.
Court documents show that Liford faces five felony charges and appeared at a bail hearing on Monday. His next court hearing is an initial appearance scheduled for March 10.
He has been charged with:
- second-degree attempt to commit murder which carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison;
- second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon to commit substantial bodily harm, 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine;
- reckless discharge of a firearm within a municipality, two years and a $5,000 fine;
- intentional discharge of a firearm that endangers safety, two years and a $5,000 fine;
- and, duty to render aid to a shooting victim, one year and a day jail time and a $3,000 fine.
Judge Michael Trushenski set bail or bond with no conditions at $600,000 or $300,000 with conditions.
Liford must also make at future court appearances, maintain contact with his attorney and may not leave the state without court permission.
He must also keep the court and his attorney informed of his current address, may not use or possess alcohol or drugs, be subjected to random testing, cannot use or possess firearms or dangerous weapons, and have no contact with the victim.
Law officers responded to a report last Thursday night, Feb. 27, that an adult female had been shot in the chest.
The criminal complaint says deputy Sgt. Matt Owens spoke with a witness who identified Liford as the shooter. The person told Owens that he was the owner of the gun used in the shooting and that Liford took it without his consent earlier that day.
The man says Liford and the woman had been arguing at the time she was shot.
The victim was transported to the Fairmont hospital for treatment and authorities have not released any details of her condition.
