A “nuisance property” in Winnebago is on a list of 52 tax-forfeited land parcels that Faribault County is planning to sell.
County auditor/treasurer Charles Schrader attended the County Board meeting on Tuesday to explain how the on-line auction will be conducted.
Schrader says the first list will include eight parcel numbers so the properties can be viewed by the public on Beacon.
Sheriff Scott Adams says he would like to have an unkept property on Fourth Avenue Southeast included in the first sale.
“I know a lot of our cities have made a big push on cleaning up properties,” he says. “The city has tried contacting the owner and would like to see something done.”
The property is “kitty-corner,” says Adams, from the county’s Quonset that is used for storage.
“There are a lot of cars sitting over there, with oil leakage and such,” he says. “People have asked if we are storing vehicles over there.”
Commissioner Tom Loveall, whose district includes Winnebago, says he has not received any complaints from residents.
But, Adams says, “I have fielded a few for you and I am trying to save you a lot of phone calls.”
Tax-forfeited lands are properties that have been lost to the state or county due to unpaid real estate taxes.
These properties are then offered for sale, typically at auction, with the proceeds going to the state or county to cover the unpaid taxes.
