Authorities respond to semi accident near B.E. River

Local News

A semi-truck carrying a load of fertilizer left the road on 175th Street near 335th Avenue Winnebago last Monday afternoon around 1 p.m.

According to Faribault County authorities, the driver of the truck lost control and jackknifed into the ditch.

The trailer came to a rest against some trees near the Blue Earth River, according to a press release issued by the Sheriff’s Department.

“I don’t have the amount that was in the tender. It was full at the time of the crash,” says Chief Deputy Scott Adams. “Speeding was the cause of the accident.”

Erosion Control Plus of Winnebago and Ron’s Trenching of Winnebago were called to help cleanup the spill.

When authorities arrived at the scene they found 70-year-old Charles Lenerd Longman of Estherville, Iowa, was out of the truck and he had sustained minor injuries.

Longman was transported to United Hospital District in Blue Earth by Winnebago Area Ambulance.

Also assisting at the accident were the Minnesota State Patrol, Winnebago Police and Fire departments, Faribault County Public Works Department and Blue Earth Fire Department.
