An ongoing investigation that began in early 2023 resulted in the arrest of Winnebago’s mayor and his son for cultivating marijuana.
According to a press release by Ben Johnson, commander of the South Central Drug Investigation Unit (SCDIU), search warrants were executed at the residences of Mayor Scott James Robertson and Jacob Jon Robertson and a building on the city’s Main Street.
With the assistance of the Faribault County Sheriff’s Department, SCDIU agents located approximately 240 plants believed to be marijuana at the residences.
Authorities reportedly seized numerous items of evidence and property during the search.
Johnson says the investigation also involved other law enforcement agencies and the Faribault County Attorney’s Office.
County Attorney Cameron Davis says he expects formal charges to be filed soon in district court.
Robertson was re-elected to a second two-year term in November 2022, which expires Jan. 1, 2025.
