Anyone speculating that a man charged in a Highway 14 drive-by shooting was involved in recent vehicle break-ins in Winnebago will have to wait and see.

Joshua Raymond Armendariz, 43, Mankato, was arrested on April 29 and faces four felony counts.

According to a criminal complaint in Blue Earth County District Court, authorities executed a search warrant and found a 9mm pistol loaded with seven live rounds in Armendariz’s vehicle.

The firearm’s serial number, says the complaint, revealed the gun had been reported stolen in Winnebago.

I am aware of the incident, situation, and its relation to Winnebago,” says Police Chief Nathan Goette.

Numerous vehicles were broken into the overnight hours of Thursday, April 25, and early morning hours of Friday, April 26.

Goette says some of the unlocked vehicles reportedly had items stolen.

I can’t answer that,” Goette says, when asked if Armendariz may be responsible for the vehicle break-ins.

The case is still under investigation. I am unable to give you many details,” he adds.

Goette wouldn’t say if authorities have received any tips or video footage from the public.
