High speed may have caused fatal crash

A car traveling too fast claimed the lives of two Granada men Thursday night in rural Winnebago.

Faribault County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one-vehicle accident on 320th Avenue, south of 150th Street around 6:39 p.m.

Authorities identified the driver of a 1993 Dodge Viper as 48-year-old Matthew Lyle Weisbrod and a passenger in the vehicle as his 19-year-old son Ethan Lyle Weisbrod.

Deputies arriving at the crash determined that both men were deceased, according to a press release.

Investigators say that neither man was wearing a seat belt and both were ejected from the Viper.

According to authorities, the Viper was southbound on 320th Avenue at a high rate of speed just after the 150th Street curve.

The vehicle reportedly left the roadway, entered the west ditch before striking a field approach.

The Sheriff’s Department and Minnesota State Patrol are continuing their investigation of the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Blue Earth police and fire departments, United Hospital District Ambulance and Minnesota State Patrol.
